Head of Strategic Communications

Permanent contract 

35 hours per week

£49,660 per annum

The Children's Society is looking for a Head of Strategic Communications to ensure our communications are creating impact for children and young people at every turn. If you can deliver integrated multi-channel communications that maximise the impact of our message then this could be role you've been waiting for.

The Head of Strategic Communications sits within our External Affairs Directorate. You will lead a multi-skilled team to coordinate and manage our channels, content and messaging. You will work with the Director of Marketing & Communications and our Creative team to ensure the continuous development and application of story-telling and brand. And you will test to see what works based on insight and audience understanding. 

You will support capacity building in engagement techniques across other teams, while horizon-scanning for new approaches and partners we can work with to amplify our impact.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have: 

  • A strong professional communications skills set in terms of devising narrative and messaging

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills and the ability to work and influence at all levels

  • Excellent written, verbal and numeric skills including the ability to create compelling and accurate copy

  • Offline and online channel experience, with strong leaning towards online channels and platforms 

  • Experience of leading a team to plan and implement marketing communications in a multi-channel and cross divisional environment

The framework is split into 3 levels: senior manager, manager and individual and you will be assessed against the level that is relevant to the role you are applying for. The framework is our organisation’s basis for how we expect everybody to work together, how we treat each other and how we carry out our work. In your application and interview you will need to consider the behaviours and give us relevant examples where you have demonstrated these from your previous experience.
