Actual salary for 28 hours £25,056.00

Location: Time for young people, Newham

This role sits within our Time for young people service in the London Borough of Newham.  We are really excited to be awarded a three year grant to enhance our offer within the service and provide one to one therapy/counselling sessions to children and young people aged 10-25 in Newham. We are aiming to reach children from marginalised backgrounds including refugee and migrants, children with special educational needs and children of the global majority.

A key part of this role will be your ability to work in a culturally sensitive, therapeutic, and holistic way, recognising and responding to children’s individual needs.  We are also looking for someone who has a strong ability to build and maintain relationships both with young people, communities and partners to ensure a smooth referral process.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Relevant counselling or therapy qualification at Diploma level or above such as Diploma in Counselling, Psychotherapy or Clinical Psychology and be registered with BACP, UKCP, NCS or HCPC.
  • Experience of delivering a range of therapeutic and evidenced based interventions with children and young people in 1-1 and group settings
  • Knowledge and understanding of the diverse range of needs of children and young people, particularly those with special educational needs and disability.

We view diversity and inclusion as fundamental to achieving social change. To tackle the complex issues facing young people, we need
access to diverse talent, perspectives, experiences and working practices. Applications from diverse backgrounds and communities are encouraged and we have policies to support flexible, inclusive and accessible employment.

The Children’s Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children’s lives happier and safer.

Every day we’re changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

The Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with.  As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks.  We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services.

Therefore, candidates applying for work in our Youth Impact Domain will be required to complete an “Employment history_template” document prior to interview. The fully completed document should be loaded by the candidate at the point of uploading your CV.

The closing date for applications is 6th May 2025.

Interviews will be held on the week commencing 12th May 2025.
